Self Limiting Thoughts

The thing always happens that you really believe in; and the belief in a thing makes it happen. -Frank Lloyd Wright
I had lunch recently with a close friend of mine who over the past year has lost a significant amount of weight. While she has been very successful in losing the weight, she has struggled to keep it off or lose any additional. She occasionally makes statements that, with an understanding of Law of Attraction, make the reasons for her difficulties perfectly understandable.
While she is now something of a shadow of her former self, she still sees herself as being, in her words, fat. I have heard her refer to herself as “the fat girl” on more than one occasion as well as referring to certain parts of her body as being fat. I have discussed with her how her thoughts affect her experience and at the conclusion of our lunch, I told her once again that her self perception was unjustified.
When I, and others who know her, look at her, we see a healthy, vibrant, beautiful woman. When she looks at herself, she sees all the things that are “wrong” with her body. She continues to think about, and thus attract, more of what she does not want. By allowing her old thoughts to continue in the forefront of her mind, she is adding to them and the Universe is responding by providing all manner of opportunities for her to gain weight.
This issue is one that I can relate to quite easily as I am currently in the process of attracting a new physique for myself. I can recall a time, not all that long ago, when I thought of myself as “fat” and continually found myself getting larger and larger. Changing my thoughts on this subject wasn’t necessarily difficult, but it did take some conscious effort in the beginning. As with all thoughts that move you up the vibrational scale, these have become easier and easier as each one attracted more like it.
